* Spikelets several-many flowered. Lower glume absent; upper glume abaxial, shorter than lemma to as long as spikelet, coriaceous. Lemma membranous to coriaceous, with or without a subterminal awn.
Genus of temperate Eurasia with 8 species; meadows and weedy places; introduced elsewhere.
