Description:
* Giant rhizomatous reed. Leaves clustered towards the top of the culm.
* Panicle large.
* Female spikelets usually two flowered with rhachilla extension. Glumes not persistent, the upper much longer than the lemma, caudate and recurved. Lemmas plumose, long caudate and entire. Male spikelets glabrous; glumes and lemmas hyaline.
Genus with one species, streamsides and damp places.
