Description: 

* Perennials with linear leaves and membranous ligule.

* Inflorescence terminal with subdigitate flattened racemes, sometimes solitary or along a long axis. Racemes with clavate to inflated internodes and pedicels.

* Sessile spikelets with a truncate callus. Lower glume keeled. Upper lemma entire and awnless. Pedicelled spikelets usually smaller or reduced. 

Genus with 9 species, occurring in the Old World.
