Tragus Haller

Description:

* Stoloniferous annuals or perennials. Leaves linair or narrowly lanceolate; ligule a fringed membrane or a fringe of hairs.

* Inflorescence a spike-like panicle racemelets shortly pedunculate of 1-5 spikelets, these contiguous or on a short rhachis, sometimes the upper spikelet reduced.

* Spikelets with a lower glume tiny or suppressed; upper glume hardened with 5-7 prominent veins forming  rows of hooked prickles. Lemma acute, awnless.

Genus with 7 species of weedy places, throughout tropics.
