Leptocarydion Stapf

Description:

* Annuals. Leaves broad, flat; ligules a short ciliate, fringed membrane.

* Inflorescence densely spiciform, the numerous slender racemes crowded along the rhachis, with spikelets crowded.

* Spikelets with 6-14 fertile florets and additional distal sterile ones; callus hairy. Glumes persistent, narrow, shorter than spikelet. Lemmas exserted from the glumes, keeled, pubescent, entire or bidentate, awned from the apex or the sinus; stamens 2-3. Caryopsis linear.

Genus with one species of dry open places in the savannas of eastern and southern Africa.
