Description:
* Densely tufted perennial with up to 1.3 m. Culms simple, weak erect. Leaves flat or involute, 15-35 cm long, 2-4 mm wide; apex attenuate, ending in a fine point.
* Inflorescence an open drooping panicle with weak flexuous branches, 10-20 cm long; branches, scabrous, pilose. Spikelets in triads, peduncle sharply recurved; spikelets pedicelled; pedicels filiform, subequal, 1-2 mm long, ciliate.
* Spikelets golden brown, lanceolate, 13-22 mm long; callus 1 mm long, pilose, hairy in 4 tufts, truncate or unequally 2-toothed (Minderhoud 423 equally toothed, sp 22 mm long). Lower glume lanceolate, 8-13 mm long, dark brown, setose on veins with tubercle-based hairs; apex acuminate; upper glume lanceolate as long as spikelet, chartaceous, dark brown, hispidulous. Lower lemma similar to upper glume, 10-18 mm long; upper lemma elliptic, 4.5-7 mm long, pubescent, margins involute, apex lobed with 2 lanceolate lobes; awn hispidulous geniculate, 4-7 cm long with twisted colum of 1.5-3.5 cm long.
