Description: 

Delicate simple, erect multi stemmed annual, 0.1-0.6 m. Culms terete. Leaves narrowly linear, 2-8 cm long, 1-2 mm broad, fine point, glabrous; ligule tiny ciliolate membrane; sheath glabrous.

* Inflorescence compound, scanty, 4-20 cm long, composed of terminal and axillary racemes exserted from the ruby tinged spatheole. Spatheole linear, 2-3 cm long. Racemes single, 1.5-2.5 cm long, bearing 2 (-6) fertile spikelets on each; rachis fragile, glabrous; internodes filiform. Pedicels filiform, 1-2 mm long, glabrous.

* Sessile spikelets linear or lanceolate, 3.5-4.5 mm long; callus truncate, 1-1.5 mm long; pubescent. Lower glume oblong, coriaceous, rough above; upper glume oblong, apex entire with an awn of 5-7 mm long. Upper lemma linear, hyaline, incised 0.7-0.8 of length with geniculate awn of 15-20 mm long from the sinus; column twisted, glabrous. Pedicelled spikelets well-developed, lanceolate, 7-8 mm long; callus linear, 1-1.5 mm long, truncate or obtuse; glumes coriaceous, glabrous, acuminate, muticous.
