Description:

* Leaves flat, up to 3 mm broad, but often convolute or folded in dry specimens, and up to 35 cm long

* Inflorescence a compound panicle and raceme-pairs aggregated into densely congested cluster with numerous reddish-brown racemes. Spatheoles 1-2 cm long.

* Lower glume of sessile spikelet usually pubescent between the keels.
