Description:
* Perennial with a knotty base, 30-70 cm high. Culms erect, firm, with leaves in the upper parts. Leaves cauline, elliptic, 9-20 cm long and 20-35 mm wide, with clear cross veins, acuminate ; ligule a ciliate membrane ; sheaths pubescent.
* Inflorescence a short unilateral terminal panicle, 1.5-5 cm long. Spikelets subsessile.
* Spikelets light green, ovate, 8-13 mm long and 3-6 mm wide, laterally compressed with 5-6 basal sterile florets and one fertile floret ; callus subtended by a fleshy frill. Glumes similar, ovate, 3-4 mm long, chartaceous, 9-11-veined, acute. Sterile lower lemma 5-6 mm long, chartaceous, glabrous ; fertile lemma elliptic, 9 mm long, acuminée. Anthères 6, blanches, filaments united ; stigmas 3, connate.
