Description:
* Tufted perennial with short rhizomes. Culms erect, 0.5-0.7 m high, 2-4-noded. Leaves involute, 25-30 cm long; ligule a ciliolate membrane of 3-4 mm long.
* Inflorescence in a terminal dense fragile spiciforme raceme of 10-15 cm long; rhachis fragile at the nodes; internodes semiterete, clavate, sometimes pubescent, 8 mm long and 2 mm wide; tip transverse crateriform. Pedicels linear, terete, 4 mm long.
* Spikelets oblong, 7 mm long; callus pubescent, truncate with a central peg. Lower glume oblong, coriaceous, keelless but narrowly winged, ribbed and tuberculate, pubescent with a 2-awned tip, awns 4 mm long; upper glume oblong, membranous, with an awned tip, the awn of 13-25 mm long. Lower lemma lanceolate, 8 mm long, hyaline; upper lemma lanceolate, 6 mm long, hyaline, acute. Pedicelled spikelet similar, 7 mm long.
