Description:

* Annual 70-110 cm long. Culms erect or geniculately ascending, 3-4 -noded, internodes distally pruinose; nodes bearded. Leaves flat or convolute, 10-25 cm long and 2.5-3.5 mm wide, smooth, glabrous; margins scabrous; tip attenuate and filiform; sheaths glabrous; ligule a fringe of hairs.

* Inflorescence a contracted oblong panicle of 15-18 cm long and 2-3 cm wide; branches capillary, sparsely divided, 1-3 cm long. Spikelets in pairs, pedicelled. Pedicels oblong, 1-2 mm long.

* Spikelets lanceolate, acuminate, 9-12 mm long; callus bearded, 2-toothed, 0.75 mm long. Glumes chartaceous, hairy on veins with tubercle-based hairs; lower glume ovate, 4-6.5 mm long, acute; upper glume lanceolate, obtuse. Lower lemma similar to upper glume, ovate, 6-7 mm long, chartaceous, glabrous or hairy on veins, acuminate; upper lemma oblong, 4 mm long, coriaceous, pubescent, obtuse with a geniculate awn of 5-7 cm long with twisted column of 1 cm long, puberulous. Anthers 2 and 2 mm long.
