Description:

* Caespitose perennial of 0.6-0.9 m high. Basal leaves 3-6 cm long and 2-4 mm wide, cauline leaves 9-18 cn long and 3-6 mm wide, margins cartilaginous and tubercle-based hairs; ligule a narrow membrane of 0.3 mm long with a fringe of short hairs.

* Inflorescence an open elliptic panicle of  6-10 cm long; branches capillary. Spikelets in loose groups of 2-3 in the cluster on filiform unequal pedicels of  5-25 mm long; pedicel base hooked.

* Spikelets lanceolate, 6-10 mm long; callus elongated, 1 mm long, pubescent, truncate. Glumes chartaceous, dark brown, hispid and hairy on veins with tubercle-based hairs; lower glume lanceolate,  4-6 mm long; upper glume lanceolate, 6-10 mm long, acuminate. Lower lemma similar to upper glume; upper lemma oblong, 4.5 mm long, coriaceous, pubescent  with a tuft of hairs below each lobe; 3 -awned. Principal awn from sinus, geniculate, 15-18 mm long overall; lateral awns arising on apex of lobes, 5-6 mm long. Anthers 3, 2 mm long.

Conservation: Restricted distribution area.
