Description:

* Coarse, loosely tufted perennial of 0.6-1.5 m high. Culms erect or spreading, up to 3 mm in diameter, pendulous. Leaves up to 75 cm long and 5-14 mm wide, flat or becoming convolute, stiff, setaceously acute.

* Inflorescence an oblong panicle of 15-30 cm long, loose or somewhat contracted, brownish.

* Spikelets 2-flowered, oblong, 4-6 mm long, the rhachilla internodes 0.2 mm long. Glumes subequal, 3-5 mm long. Lemmas narrowly oblong-ovate, 3-4 mm long, pilose with hairs 0.5-1 mm long near the margins, the tip entire or shortly and acutely bilobed; awn 3-6 mm long; callus of upper florets 1-1.5 mm long, densely bearded with hairs up to 1.5 mm long. Anthers 2 mm long.
