Agrostis tibestica Miré & Quézel

Description:

* Densely caespitose perennial of 0.3-0.6 m high; butt sheaths persistent and investing base of culm, covered by compacted dead sheaths. Culms  3-5 -noded. Leaves linear, 5-7.5 cm long and 2.5-3 mm wide, scaberulous; ligule an eciliate membrane, 5-6 mm long; sheaths 3-12 cm long.

* Inflorescence a spiciform panicle; axis and branches pubescent. Spikelets with pedicels 0.6-0.8 mm long, pubescent.

* Spikelets elliptic, 2.4-2.6 mm long; floret callus pubescent; no rhacheole extension. Glumes persistent, similar, lanceolate, gaping, membranous, margins ciliolate, 2.4-2.6 mm long. Lemma oblong, 2.5 mm long, cartilaginous, 5 -veined, lateral veins obscure and excurrent, apex dentate, with a dorsal principal awn 3/4 way up back of lemma, geniculate, 1.5 mm long overall and with a straight or slightly twisted column; palea 0.8-1.1 mm long, 2 -veined. Anthers 3, yellow.
