Description:
* Rhizomatous perennial. Perennial of 60–70 cm high. Culms weak, spongy, covered below with imbricate scarious brown bladeless sheaths, ascending from a creeping rhizome, glabrous at the nodes. Leaves 8–20 cm long and up to 6 mm wide, flat, glabrous, the midrib smooth beneath; ligule 2–2.5 mm long, obliquely truncate.
* Inflorescence a narrow contrcted panicle, typically linear to linear-oblong, 8–14 cm long and 5–10 mm wide; branches appressed to the rhachis, bearing spikelets almost from the base.
* Spikelets oblong-elliptic to narrowly oblong, 3–3.5 mm long and 0.9–1(–1.2) mm wide, yellowish pale-green, puberulous lemma scabrid on the keel, sometime drawn out into a subulate point of up to 1 mm. long.
Distribution West Africa: Sudan.
