Desxription:

* Short-lived cespitose perennial of 15-60 cm high; leaves mostly basal. Culms geniculately ascending, 1-1.5 mm diameter, internodes glabrous. Leaves linear, 4-20 cm long and 2-4 mm widw, margins scabrous, tuberculate-ciliate et the base; ligule a fringe of hairs of 0.5-0.8 mm lon; sheaths glabrous, outer margins hairy.

* Inflorescence a linear panicle, pyramidal after anthesis, 3-13 cm long; branches first appressed, whorled at most nodes.

* Spikelets lanceolate, 1.2-2 mm long. Lower glume 0.6-0.7 mm long, membranous, 1-veined, acuminate; upper glume lanceolate, as long as spikelet, grey, 1-veined, acute. Lemma lanceolate, as long as spikelet, membranous, grey, acute; palea readily splitting down midline. Anthers 2-3, 1.2 mm long. Caryopsis ovoid, 1.1-1.2 mm long.
