Guineo-soudanian species of tall grassland, woodland, open or shady fire-climax savanna woodland on a variety of soil types; frequent in advanced secondary communities on road embankments, ditches and fallows; weed in rainfed crops. Its scent makes it repellant to livestock and it increases rapidly with selective grazing.
