Parahyparrhenia A. Camus

Description: 

Annuals or perennials.

* Inflorescence a single or pair of racemes, terminal and axillary, forming a compound panicle. Raceme fairly long, the homogamous spikelets inconspicuous; bases terete, not deflexed.

* Sessile spikelet callus acute to pungent. Lower glume with a dep median groove, often awned. Upper lemma bi-dentate, bearing a stout hairy awn. Pedicelled spikelet as long as sessile, with or without a callus.

Small genus with 5 species in the NWT Africa region and southern Asia.
