Elymandra Stapf

Descriptions: 

Tall annuals or perennials. Leaves linear.

* Inflorescence a false panicle with pairs of racemes, long excerted from the narrow spatheoles and gathered toether. Racemes slender with up to 10 homogamous spikelets at the base; bases filiform, rarely deflexed.

* Sessile spikelets terete with a narrowly obtuse to pungent callus. Lower glume coriaceous, rounded on the back and sides, at length dark brown; upper glume nearly always awned. Upper lemma bi-lobed with a stout long awn with hairy column. Pedicelled spikelet similar as sessile spikelet but with a linear callus.

Tropical african genus with 6 species.
