Monocymbium Stapf

Description: 

Perennials with linear leaves.

* Inflorescence a solitary raceme enclosed by a cymbiform spatheole, loosely gathered into a false panicle. Raceme dense without homogamous pairs; internodes and pedicels short, filiform, ciliate.

* Sessile spikelets dorsally compressed; callus obtuse. Upper lemma ternode. Lower glume coriaceous; upper glume awned. Upper lemma hyaline, bi-lobed with a geniculate awn with a glabrous column. Pedicelled spikelet broadly lanceolate, sub acute or merely spinulose ciliate with linear callus.

A genus of 3 species, occurring in tropical and South Africa.
