Description:
* Annual of 30-60 cm long. Leaves flat or involute, 3-8 cm long and 1 mm wide, flaccid, glabrous, narrowed towards the ligule; ligule a ciliolate membrane of 0.5 mm long; sheaths with long hairs..
* Inflorescence paniculate, 15-30 cm long, lax. Racemes with a triplet of spikelets, one fertile sessile spikelet and 2 pedicelled spikelets. Pedicels filiform, 1.5 mm long, ciliate. Spatheole linear, 1.2-2 cm long, scarious; peduncle 0.4-0.8 cm long.
* Sessile spikelets lanceolate, subterete, 3.5-5 mm long; callus cuneate, 1 mm long, pubescent. Glumes dissimilar; lower glume oblong, chartaceous, 2-fid, mucronate; upper glume lanceolate with an awn 6 mm long. Lower lemma 3 mm long, hyaline, ciliate on margins, obtuse; upper lemma lanceolate, 2 mm long, hyaline, incised 0.5 of length with geniculate awn from a sinus of 2-3 cm long with twisted glabrous column 10-17 mm long. Sterile spikelets represented by barren pedicels or well-developed, sterile or male, lanceolate, 4.5-6 mm long; callus linear, 1.5-2 mm long, truncate; glumes coriaceous.
