Description:

* Annual or perennial. Ligule a fringe of hairs.

* Inflorescence a open panicle. Spikelets in pairs or in threes, with short subequal pedicels.

* Spikelets purplish, with a basal male floret and a fertile floret; callus pubescent or pilose, truncate or acute. Glume lanceolate, chartaceous. Lower lemma lanceolate, chartaceous, acuminate. Upper lemma coriaceous, pubescent, with two hair tufts and aristulate lateral lobes. Principal awn geniculate from the sinus; lateral awns shorter than principal.

West-african genus with 3 species; damp pockets on rock outcrops.
