Description:
* Tufted annual of 1-1.5 m high. Culms erect, 2-3-noded. Leaves erect, involute, 7-15 cm long and 0.5-2 mm wide, scaberulous; ligule a fringe of hairs.
* Inflorescence a spiciform panicle of 6-10 cm long and 6-8 mm wide; branches appressed, 2-4 mm long, with 1-2 spikelets on each. Spikelets on oblong pedicels.
* Spikelets linear to lanceolate, acuminate, 20-22 mm long; callus elongated, 1.5-2 mm long, bearded with hairs od 2-2.5 mm long, acute. Lower glume lanceolate, 11-12 mm long, chartaceous, hairy on the veins with tubercle-based hairs of 1-1.7 mm long; upper glume lanceolate as long as spikelet, chartaceous, acute, asperulous. Lower lemma similar to upper glume; upper lemma oblong, 7 mm long, coriaceous, pubescent, bi-fid with the geniculate awn of 11-11 cm long from the sinus; column twisted, 4 cm long, puberulous. Anthers 2, 4-5 mm long.
