Description:

* Caespitose annual of 0.3-1 m high. Culms erect, 2-3-noded. Leaves erect, flat or involute, filiform, 5-12 cm long and 1-2 mm wide, scaberulous, attenuate; ligule a fringe of hairs.

* Inflorescence a linear or oblong spiciform panicle of 2.5-5 cm long and 1-1.2 mm wide, branches appressed, 2-3 mm long with 1-2 spikelets on each lower branch. Pedicels oblong.

* Spikelets lanceolate, acuminate, 12.5-14 mm long; callus elongated, 1.5 mm long, bearded with hairs of 2 mm long, truncate. Lower glumes slightly shorter than the spikelet, setose on the veins with tubercle-based hairs on the veins; upper glume as long as spikelet, lanceolate, chartaceous, acuminate. Lower lemma similar to upper glume; upper lemma oblong, 5-5.5 mm long, coriaceous, bifid with a geniculate awn of 5.5-6 cm long from the sinus; column twisted, 1 cm long, puberulous. Anthers 2, 1.7-2 mm long.
