Description:

* Rhizomatous perennial of 0.6 m high. Culms uniformous, at the base with sheaths with reduced blade, 2-3 leaves at the tip are well developped. Leaves oblong, 15-20 cm long and 4.5-9 cm wide, longly acuminated, base attenuate; false petiole 0.8-1 cm long.

* Inflorescence terminal, globular or racemose, up to 10 cm long with 3-7 spikelets.

* Spikelets linear lanceolate, 2-4 cm long and 4 mm wide with 8-15 florets. Glumes pubescent, the lower glume shorter, the upper as long as the lemmas. Lemmas imbricated, vate, acute, 7-11 mm long, villous especially near the base; pales 2-keeled with 4 intramarginal nerves.
