Description:

* Rhizomatous perennial of 0.6-1.2 m high. Culms uniformous, erect, with leaves all along the culm. Leaves oblong elliptical, abruptly acuminate, 10-25 cm long and 3-8 cm wide, towards the tipnarrower; false petiole 2-3 mm long; sheaths auriculate with auricles up to 7 mm long.

* Inflorescence a long panicle, towards the base racemose, 25-30 cm long with up to 19 spikeletsl basal branches up to 11 cm long.

* Spikelets linear, 4-9 cm long, open, the internodes well visible, with up to 15 florets. Lower glume acute, 3-4 mm long; upper glume obtue, 5 mm long. Lemma 8-9 mm long, lanceolate, pressed over their whole length to the rhacheole; pales as long as the lemmas, membranous, two-keeled with 2 intercarinal nerves.
