Description:

* Annual 80–110 cm long; butt sheaths glabrous. Culms geniculately ascending. Leaves 8–12 cm long; 3–4 mm wide; ligule an eciliate membrane; sheaths auriculate, glabrous on surface.

* Inflorescence composed of racemes. Central axis 8.5–11 cm long.  Racemes 5–12, borne along a central axis, unilateral; 4–7 cm long.. Rhachis wingless; angular. Spikelet packing lax. Spikelets pedicelled, 2 in the cluster; pedicels unequal, 1–3 mm long, scabrous.

* Spikelets lanceolate or elliptic, 1.9–2.1 mm long. Lower glume ovate, 0.7 mm long, membranous, truncate to acute; upper glume oblong, slightly shorter than the spikelet, membranous, 7-veined, pubescent, acute. Basal florets barren, with palea, lower lemma elliptic, membranous, 7-veined, pubescent, acute; upper lemma elliptic, slightly shorter than spikelet, cartilaginous, much thinner on margins, grey, surface reticulate, acuminate; palea cartilaginous.
