Description:

*  Caespitose perennial of 0.7-1.5 m long. Culms erect, nodes bearded wide. Leaves flat, or involute, 20-30 cm long and 2-4 mm, hairy on both sides; ligule a fringe of hairs; sheaths pubescent.

* Inflorescence paniculate, 30-60 cm long, composed of single terminal and axillary racemes, subtended by a spatheole. Spatheoles linear, 2-4 cm long. Racemes 7-8 cm long; rhachis fragile at the nodes; internodes and pedicels linear, 6 mm long, villous, hairs 3-4 mm long.

* Sessile spikelets lanceolate, 9.5 mm long; callus linear, 2.5 mm long, pilose. Lower glume ovate, chartaceous, with oil streaks, 2-keeled; 9 -veined, margins ciliate; tip with two awns of 20 mm long. Lower lemma lanceolate, 5.5 mm long, hyaline ; upper lemma lanceolate, 4.5 mm long, hyaline. Pedicelled spikelets lanceolate, 6 mm long; glumes chartaceous, glabrous, acuminate; both glumes awned with 6-20 mm long awns.

 Distribution West Africa and world-wide: Ivory Coast, Burkina Faso.
