Description:
* Caespitose annual; butt sheaths glabrous. Culms 30-45 cm long. Leaves flat or convolute; 5-20 cm long and 2-3 mm wide; ligule a fringe of hairs; oral hairs bearded.
* Inflorescence an open elliptic effuse panicle of 10-15 cm long; branches capillary, 3-10 cm long. Spikelets solitary, pedicelled.
* Spikelets lanceolate, 6-12 mm long; callus 0.75 mm long, pilose, acute. Glumes similar, membranous, lanceolate; lower glume 5-8 mm long, mid vein scaberulous, acuminate with an awn of 1-2 mm long; upper glume 5-8 mm long. Lemma elliptic, subterete, 5-8 mm long, coriaceous, scaberulous, acuminate with a deciduous 3-branched awn abscissing from top of lemma. Awn without a column and a central branch of 15-25 mm long; lateral awns 10-20 mm long.
