Description:  Annual of 0.6-1 m high. Culms creeping and ascendin, 2 mm diameterg. Leaves linear, flat, 3-6 cm long and 2-4 mm wide, rounded at the base, scabrous on the cartilaginous margins; ligule membranous, 1.5 mm long.

* Inflorescence compound, composed of solitary racemes of 4 cm long; rhachis articulated, fragile; internodes oblong, pubescent, 4-5 mm long. Spikelets squeezed between internode and pedicel. Pedicels oblong, pubescent.

* Spikelets linear, laterally compressed, 4-5 mm long; callus pilose, obtuse. Lower glume linear, coriaceous, dark brown, two-keeled frontally; veins obscure, pilose. Lower lemma lanceolate, 3.5 mm long, ciliolate on the margins; upper lemma oblong, 4 mm long, bilobed ¾ of length, with a geniculate awn of 16 mm long from the sinus, column twisted, glabrous.

Distribution West Africa and world-wide: Senegal, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea.
