Description: 

* Slightly tufted annual of 0.5-0.7 m high. Culms erect, glabrous. Leaves filiform or linear, enrolled, 5-10 cm long and 1-2 mm wide, sparsely hairy; ligule membranous; sheaths keeled.

* Inflorescence a spatheolate panicle with axillary and terminal racemes supported by spatheoles; spatheoles linear. Racemes fragile, 2-2.5 cm long; rhachis fragile on the nodes, ciliate on the margins; internodes clavate, 1.5 mm long, with a cupuliform tip ciliate. Pedicels clavate, ciliate, 4 mm long

* Spikelets lanceolate, 4-6 mm long; callus obtuse, pilose. Lower glume keeled laterally, 3 intercarinal nerves, tip 2-fid; upper glume membraneous with ciliate margins. Lower lemma oblong, hyaline, 3 mm long; upper lemma linear 3 mm long, tip entire with a geniculate awn of 12-16 mm long, column twisted, glabrous. Pedicelled spikelets lanceolate, 3-4 mm long, deciduous with the sessile spikelet, glumes chartaceous, with an awn of 1-3 mm long.
