Festuca camerunensis Alexeev

Description:

* Caespitose perennial, densely clumped and withering fibery butt sheaths. Culms of 15-35 cm high, binode. Culm 1.5-2 mm diameter, 2-noded; internodes smooth. Leaves straight, filiform, angular in section, 5-20 cm long and 0.5-1 mm wide, coriaceous, dark green, smooth; ligule a ciliolate membrane of 0.2-0.5 mm long; sheaths tubular, smooth.

* Inflorescence a contracted, linear panicle of 6-9 cm long with appressed branches of 2-4 cm long; axis smooth.

* Spikelets lanceolate, violet, 9-10 mm long, with 2-4 fertile florets and  diminished florets at the apex. Lower glume lanceolate, 5-5.5 mm long, membranous with thinner margins; upper glume chartaceous, 6.5-7 mm long, 3-fid. Lemma elliptic, 7.5-8 mm long, 5-nerved, 1/3 keeled, chartaeous with an awn of 0.8-1.5 mm at the tip. Anthers 3, 0.7-1 mm long.
