Description:

* Perennial of 0.8-1 m high. Culms erect or geniculately ascending. Leaves 15-35 cm long and 4-10 mm wide, sparsely hairy; ligule a glabrous eciliate membrane of 2-3 mm long.

* Inflorescence a narrow dense panicle of 25-30 cm long. Basal branches 4-12 cm long.

* Spikelets with 3-4 fertile florets with a barren rhachilla extension well visible beyond, oblong, 12-16 mm long ; internodes 3-3.5 mm long, pilose with 1-1.5 mm long hairs ; callus pilose. Lower glume elliptic, 3.5-5 mm long, herbaceous ; upper glume oblong, 5-8 mm long. Lemmas elliptic, 10-16 mm long, herbaceous, dentate, with a geniculate awn on 2/3 of lemma back of 10-16 mm long.
