Description:

* Annual reddish green, 0.5 m high. Culms straight, nodes glabrous. Leaves narrow, 10-14 cm long and 1 mm wide; ligule with auricles of 4 mm long.

* Inflorescence a panicle with ascending branches, 15-17 cm long and 1.5 cm wide.

* Spikelets glabrous purplish, 5.5-7 mm long and 0.8-1 mm wide. Glumes both absent or obscure. Lemma and palea chartaceous keeled and 5 -veined midvein ciliate with minute hairs, only at the tip glassy hairs of up to 0.4 mm long; awn 6-11 cm, mid-green, purplish.
