Sporobolus pauciflorus A. Chev.

Description: 

* Tiny annual of  5-12 cm long. Culms erect, internodes distally glabrous. Leaves erect, filiform, convolute, 0.5-1 mm wide; ligule a very short ciliated membrane.

* Inflorescence an open linear panicle of 1-2 cm long with 10-20 fertile spikelets. Primary branches indistinct; the panicle almost racemose. Spikelets pedicelled.

* Spikelets lanceolate, 2.3 mm long. Lower glume oblong, 1.1 mm long, truncate or obtuse. Upper glume lanceolate, 1.1 mm long, truncate or obtuse. Lemma elliptic, 2.3 mm long; paleas long as lemma. Caryopsis ellipsoid or ovoid.

Distribution West Africa and world-wide: Guinea, Niger
