Description:
* Rhizomatous perennial up to 1.2 m long. Culms either with leaves or with the spikelets. The leavy culms 0.4-1.2 m high, the aphyllous ones 6-35 cm high. Leaves elliptic, acuminate, slightly assymetrical, attenuate to rounded at the base, glabrous or pubescent, slightly shiny, 10-35 cm long and up to 8 cm wide; false petiole short, 1-5 mm long; sheaths with rounded auricles.
* Inflorescence a dense panicle, in general at the tip of the aphyllous culms, long-excerted, 4-8 cm long and with up to 25 spikelets, rarely some inflorescence on the leavy culms.
* Spikelets linear, light green brownish, 1.5-4 mm long; internodes often visible between the lemmas. Lemmas lanceolate, 8-11 mm long, as long as the paleas. Anthers white.
