Description:
* Caespitose perennial of 0.5-1.5 m high. Culms robust, erect or ascending, glabrous. Leaves linear, flat, glabrous, 10-40 cm long and 3-8 mm wide; ligule truncate, membranous; sheaths glabrous .
* Inflorescence a spiciform cylindrical panicle of 10-25 cm long, straw-colored with grey purple, composed of about 7 spikelets in small oblong clusters on pubescent peducles; central axis sinuous and angular.
* Spikelets elliptical to oblong, 4-6 cm long, acute en broader in the middle. Glumes unequal, Lower glumes of outer spikelets as long as spikelets, coriaceous and appressed pubescent, those of the inner spikelets reduced; upper glume as long or shorter than the lower one, membranous, and subulate. Lower lemma ciliate towards the tip, and shorter than spikelet; upper lemma cartilaginous, ovate-lanceolate. Anthers 3. Caryopse ellipsoid, 2 mm long.
