Description:

* Annual of 0.3-2 m high. Culms decumbent, sometimes rooting from the lower nodes. Leaves curled, 3-35 cm long and 3-20 mm wide, base simple rounded or amplexicaul; ligule an eciliate membrane; sheath.

* Inflorescence numerous racemes borne in several whorls, spreading, along a central axis of 8-30 cm long. Racemes unilateral, 2-11 cm long; rhachis wingles, angular with scattered hairs. Spikelets in pairs, on unequal pedicels.

* Spikelets elliptic, 1.2-2.3 mm long. Lower glume; upper glume elliptic, as long as spikelet, membranous, 3-veined, puberulous or pubescent, acute. Lower lemma without palea, similar o upper glume, 5-7-veined; upper lemma as long as spikelet, cartilaginous, light brown, margins thinner covering most of palea.

Distribution West Africa: Mauritania, Senegal, Chad.
