Description:

* Tufted perennial, densely clumped, butt sheaths withering into long fibers, 35-70 cm high. Leaves curved, filiform, 30-40 cm long and 0.5-0.6 mm wide, angular in section; ligule an eciliate membrane of 0.2-0.5 mm long; sheaths open for ½-2/3 of their length.

* Inflorescence a contracted linear panicle of 14-20 cm long; branches appressed, 3-10 cm long; axis scaberulous.

* Spikelets with 3-5 fertile florets and smaller ones towards the tip, lanceolate, 9-10 mm long. Glumes lanceolate, the lower one membranous and 6-7.5 mm and the upper one chartaceous and 7.5-8 mm long. Lemmas elliptic, 6.5-8 mm long, chartaceous with an awn of 1.5-2.5 mm long from the tip; palea scabrous, 2-fid. Anthers 3, 2.7-3.5 mm long.
