Description: 

Caespitose annual of 0.3-0.6 m high. Culms geniculately ascending, 3-6-noded. Leaves involute, 7-25 cm long and 0.5-3 mm wide; ligule an eciliate membrane of 3 mm long; sheaths pilose.

* Inflorescence a linear false spatheolate panicle of 10-25 cm long. Racemes terminal and axillary, solitary, with a triplet of spikelet of one fertile sessile spikelet and two sterile pedicelled spikelets. Spatheoles linear, 1.5-3 cm long, scarious. Pedicels filiform, 1-1.5 mm long, ciliate with red hairs.

* Sessile spikelets linear, 5.5-7 mm long; callus cuneate, 1.5 mm long, pungent, pubescent with red hairs. Lower glume oblong, coriaceous, dark brown, dentate with 2 awns of 3-5 mm long; upper glume with an awn of 7-8 mm long. Lower lemma oblong, 3 mm longf, hyaline, ciliate on margins; upper lemma linear, 3-3.5 mm long, hyaline with a geniculate awn of 4-9 cm long from the sinus, column twisted, 2-2.7 cm long, glabrous.
